ABCsolutions was established to assist Canadian individuals and organizations to meet the challenge of developing and maintaining an effective anti-money laundering compliance program as mandated under Canada's Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act. We rely heavily on our subscription-based web site to provide our clients with the latest generic tools and information to ensure that they continue to be compliant with evolving federal regulations. To expand our client base to include large organizations though, it became clear that we needed to provide customized, client specific, anti-money laundering solutions. We decided that we wanted to add customized client portals exclusively for select clients in addition to our existing private On Line Education Centre.

In September, 2002 we contacted Rob Horton at Claero Systems to seek a second opinion when we were dissatisfied with what our original web developer had proposed. Our initial conversations with Rob were a real eye-opener. After it was clear that he understood our technical requirements, Rob also went to great lengths to understand our business case. His proposal was well researched and in addition to a competitive quote for the new features, Rob offered us the opportunity to realize over $600/year cost savings for hosting by converting our entire web site from a proprietary format to Open Source.

Claero Systems completed our project within our time constraints so that we could demonstrate our new portal to anxious potential clients and provided weekly status updates so that we were confident about their progress. The conversion to Open Source was seamless and Claero improved upon a number of features which were poorly implemented in the original site. For example, our Java-based "What's New" scroller which had been a real pain to implement properly, was transformed into a powerful tool allowing us to customize what items are displayed based on the user's industry, their location in the web site and the date.
